An electronic class register for language schools
Teachers keep the register after their own lessons: attendance, the topic with its syllabus unit, grades and homework, from a phone too. Students and parents see their entries in their own accounts. The register is part of the school system, next to the timetable and payments, at no extra charge.
What the register covers
Eight things a teacher records or checks at every lesson. Each one links to the module that does the work.
Attendance in four states
Present, absent, late, excused. Lateness is recorded in minutes, and every state can carry a note the student and parent can read.
Module: JournalTopic and course syllabus
Each lesson has a topic and plan, plus the coursebook unit it covered. “Where we are” comes from the last lesson held, so a cover teacher sees the same thing.
Module: Course programmeGrades and averages
A grid of students by grade columns: lesson, weighted category and a title saying what it was for. Weighted averages per category, a final grade per term and a history of who entered what.
Module: JournalHomework
A task with a due date and an attachment from E-learning or a link. The teacher marks each student’s status and can add a grade, and 30 days after the due date the task moves to the archive.
Module: JournalStudent account
Students get their own register across all their groups: attendance, grades, homework and exercises, with the week’s lessons and tasks to do on their Dashboard.
Module: StudentsParent account
Parents see each child separately: attendance, grades, remarks, homework, reports and payments. New entries bring a notification in the panel and one combined email, not an email after every click.
Module: GuardiansLessons from the timetable
The register has no calendar of its own. Lessons come from the series in the Timetable, with cover, cancellations and days off the series skips.
Module: ScheduleStudent report
Attendance, grades and homework for a chosen period with the teacher’s comment, frozen on the day it is sent and delivered as a link to the student and parents.
Module: StudentsA teacher’s day with the register
Everything a teacher records around a lesson fits on a phone, between one room and the next.
- 15:30 Group A2 room 2 now
- 17:00 Tom, 1:1 online
- 18:15 Group B2 room 4
- Topic
- Past Simple
- Syllabus
- Unit 4/12
- Homework
- due Friday
- Note
- Ola: traffic, 10 min
-
15 minutes before the lesson
The panel sends a “lesson in 15 minutes” notification, and the day’s lessons are listed in order on the Dashboard.
-
Attendance in the grid
You open the lesson and mark attendance from the menu next to each student, with lateness in minutes.
-
Topic and unit
You enter the topic and pick the syllabus unit the lesson covered.
-
Homework
A task with a due date and a material. Students with an account get an email about the new task and a reminder the day before it is due.
-
Grade
A new grade column with a title saying what it is for, filled in from the keyboard or with a single “Fill in for everyone”.
-
Parents get one email
The student and parent see the entry in the panel straight away, and the combined email arrives once the teacher has finished, between 8:00 and 20:00 school time.
Teachers write only for their own lessons and see a cover group from 14 days before to 7 days after the cover. Management sees the whole school’s register. The panel runs in the phone’s browser; an app in the stores is in preparation.
What the register has, and what it does not
The second list matters just as much: better to know before you start than after.
Included
- Attendance: four states, minutes late, a note
- Topic, plan and course syllabus unit
- Grades on the school’s own scale and categories, weighted averages
- Final grade per term
- Homework with a status and an optional grade
- Remarks about a student, visible to the parent
- Printable student card and attendance register, grade export to CSV
- Online lessons with the group whiteboard, attached to timetabled lessons
Not included
- Excuse notes as documents: “excused” is an attendance state, not a request from a parent
- Text messages: notifications come in the panel and by email
- An App Store or Google Play app: the panel runs in the phone’s browser, and an app is in preparation
- Official grade sheets, school certificates and SIO in the course plan: primary schools have a separate plan with the Classes module
- Remarks and payments for students who have a parent on file: the parent sees them
Who sees what
Teachers, management, students and parents look at the same register, but each sees their own part. The server enforces the boundary on every save, not a hidden button in the menu.
| Role | Sees | Changes |
|---|---|---|
| Management and head of studies | The whole school’s register: every group, attendance, grades, homework and remarks. | Entries in any group, and the owner also sets the grade scale, categories and the school’s emails to students and parents. |
| Teacher | Their own groups, and a cover group from 14 days before to 7 days after the cover. | Attendance, topic, grades, remarks, homework and final grades, only for their own lessons. |
| Student | Their own register across all groups: attendance with notes, grades, homework and exercises; remarks only if they have no parent on file. | Nothing in the register. They do exercises, and never see classmates’ grades or the group’s register. |
| Parent | Each child separately: attendance, grades, remarks, homework, reports and payments. | Nothing in the register. They pay with the “Pay” button, message their child’s teachers and can turn off emails in their account. |
Questions about the register
Short answers, no overpromising. What the register does not do is listed alongside.
- The course plan keeps no official grade sheets, school certificates or SIO data. The separate Primary school plan has them (pilot), and no plan has SIO data exchange.
- An excused absence is an attendance state set by the school. Parents do not submit one through a form in the panel.
- Notifications go to the panel and by email. There are no text messages, and no app in the stores yet.
- The room is a text label on the lesson, so neither the register nor the timetable warns when two groups are booked into the same room.
No. Librus and Vulcan are registers for Polish state schools, with official grade sheets and ministry requirements. Cerium keeps the register of a private language school: groups with levels, a course syllabus and cover lessons, alongside the timetable and payments.
Yes. The panel runs in the phone’s browser and is designed from a 390 px width up: the teacher opens the lesson, marks attendance from the menu next to each student and enters the topic. An App Store and Google Play app is in preparation.
Each child separately: attendance with the teacher’s notes, grades, remarks, homework, reports and payments. A new grade, remark or absence brings a notification in the panel and one combined email once the teacher has finished.
Yes. A one-to-one lesson is a group with a single student, so it has the same register, timetable and payment plan. Students can also book a lesson in a teacher’s free slot themselves; the Bookings module is in beta.
The register is part of the Cerium subscription, with no separate fee. The plan price depends on the number of students and teachers, and current prices are on the pricing page.
Students, parents and groups import from CSV files, with a template to download. The import does not carry over attendance, grade or topic history, so that stays in the old system for reference.
No. A student is a school record from the moment they are added, so the teacher can mark attendance and enter grades without an account. The school sends account access separately when the student or parent should see the register themselves.
More about the class register
The same register described from the side of the teacher, the parent, attendance, and a comparison with a state school register.
A class register built for the teacher
The teacher opens the register and sees their own groups, each with its next lesson, so there is nothing to hunt for. Attendance, topic, grades and homework go in after their own lessons, from a phone browser. A group they cover arrives 14 days before the cover and stays 7 days after.
A class register for parents and students
Parents get an account from the school’s email and, once signed in, see their own children, each one separately: attendance, grades, remarks, homework, payments and messages. Students have a register of their own. Nothing to install: the panel works in the phone’s browser.
Attendance, grades and lesson topics in one grid
The attendance register in Cerium is a student × lesson grid: four attendance states with lateness in minutes and a note, grades by category on the school’s own scale, and a topic for every lesson. The server works out attendance and averages with one formula, so the Journal, the student’s details and the parent report all show the same numbers.
A language school register is not a school e-register
A language school runs groups instead of classes, levels instead of year groups and enrolment all year round. It teaches children and adults, gets paid by parents, learners and companies, and its teachers work on contracts. A school e-register knows none of this. A language school register is one part of a system that runs all of it.
